1. Pendulation

- Return your attention to the neutral area. Rest there for 20 to 30 seconds, noticing its qualities again.
- Pendulate back and forth — neutral area, pain area, neutral area — keeping the movements of attention slow and unhurried. You’re not trying to reduce the pain directly. You’re widening the nervous system’s relationship to it.
- Notice over several rounds whether the pain area feels even slightly less alarming. Continue for 4 to 6 minutes.
2. Slow exhale with body scan

3. Grounding press
Why it works: Pressing your feet firmly into the floor and your hands firmly into your thighs sends proprioceptive input — information about body position and pressure — that competes with pain signals at the spinal cord level. This is gate control theory in action: when non-pain sensory input (pressure, position) floods the same pathways, the pain signal is partially “gated out” before it even reaches the brain.
- Sit upright in a chair with both feet flat on the floor. Eyes open.

4. Orienting response
Why it works: The orienting response is a built-in brainstem process that mammals use after a threat passes: a slow, deliberate visual scan of the environment to gather evidence of safety. 5. Micro-movement
